Following is a letter to the editor I submitted to the Columbus Dispatch after the Ohio Governor closed all non-essential businesses:
“I learned the definition of societal insanity from this Covid -19 pandemic. Governor DeWine ordered all non-essential businesses to close during this heath crisis. I support his initiative but wonder about elements of his perspective.
For example: I cannot go into a Best Buy store to purchase a new cell phone to talk to family members I can’t visit. That’s NOT an essential business. But if I feel really angry at being cooped up and need to blow off steam I can go to my local firearms dealer and buy an assault rifle. That is an essential business!!!”
The Dispatch ultimately printed a heavily edited version of this in the Letters to the Editor section.
